Practicing grammar online.

Sometimes it is difficult to go to the library to study some grammar, others do not have enough money to buy expensive grammar books or maybe to take a course. Well, thank the Internet now you can practice  grammar for free!

You can make lots of progress just by using the Internet. Of course, you have a lot of websites that offer you free and non-free English language practice, but this time I will consider one free website with you.

English Page has been my favorite website for a long time. It is a complete page: Vocabulary, conditionals, modals, gerunds, prepositions, reading, listening, etc.

My favorite section is the Tense tutorial(look for it in the menu on the left side of the website);

Here you can read the tutorial (rules) about a specific tense first, and then you can practice by doing exercises.  Go to the tense tutorial and do all the excersises that combine tenses.

The page checks your answers once you finished doing the exercises. Also it can give you a hint (help) if it is too difficult for you to do them.

Why don't you go check yourself? I hope this page can help you in your daily English learning process!

Sometimes grammar turns out to be a little difficult, especially when you have to take tests about it and many tenses are involved. The Present Simple looks the best answer, or maybe the Past Simple is better and finally you decide on the Present Perfect!! Don’t feel bad, you are not the only one who thinks that grammar sometimes is puzzling!

I can give you some recommendations to improve your grammar:

Books

It is a good idea to go to the library and find books about grammar. Take some time exploring them and  look up the topic in the index. If the book comes with exercises; do them.  You can always ask your teacher to check your answers or you can check the answers by yourself. Here some recommended books:

  • Understanding and using English Grammar 4th Ed. by Azar & Hagen. (Intermediate to Advanced). The famous one! This book has theory and exercises that can help you with your grammar. It’s widely used around the world.

  • Oxford Learner’s Grammar Finder by John Eastwood. (Intermediate to Advanced). Includes explanations and examples of English grammatical structures with particular focus on areas likely to cause difficulty.

  • Practical English Usage by M. Swam. If you have problems with any grammar topic, this is the book for you. Swan explains every grammar issue clearly and with good examples!

Well, soon I will give you more recommendations to continue improving grammar. See you soon!!

PS: You can find all these books in our library!!
